Allan Hills 84001 & President Clinton Statement Regarding Mars Meteorite Discovery in Antarctica
In 1984, the meteorite ALH84001 was found in Antarctica. Analysis of the meteorite found that it originated on Mars, having been ejected from the planet after an impact event over 16 million years ago. In 1996, ALH84001 caused quite a stir when a group of scientists published evidence of biological fossils found within the meteorite. Their discovery made headlines and prompted then President Bill Clinton to address the nation.
