How did we do that? The possibility of rapid transition:
http://steps-centre.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/How_Did_We_Do_That.pdfAdvertising locks in the culture of consumerism. It's messages that define us first and foremost as consumers far outweigh visible invitations to think of ourselves as citizens with broader, extended responsibilities.

"30 years later, deniers are still lying about James Hansen’s amazing global warming prediction" - by @dana1981 https://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2018/jun/25/30-years-later-deniers-are-still-lying-about-hansens-amazing-global-warming-prediction
Today "climate change deniers" are not the main issue anymore. It's folks that acknowledge it's happening, but decide "it's not my problem" or "I can't do anything about this". We are in urgent need of future eco-nomy visions, that drive real climate action.
If we don't have such convincing, realistic, positive & inclusive narratives of what life on earth might be like in the next 30y of accelerating climate change - we are automatically yielding tremendous power to demagogues & dictators, that are happy to fill this void with darkness.

Every 2min, the energy reaching earth from the sun is equivalent to the annual usage of humanity. All the energy for cars, houses, servers etc. the world uses in one year - is equivalent to 2min of energy from the sun. #ClimateChange

"Crafting Normative Messages to Protect the Environment" (2003):
http://www2.psych.ubc.ca/~schaller/Psyc591Readings/Cialdini2003.pdfIt is widely recognized that communications that activate social norms can be effective in producing societally beneficial conduct. Not so well recognized are the circumstances under which normative information can backfire to produce the opposite of what a communicator intends. There is an understandable, but misguided, tendency to try to mobilize action against a problem by depicting it as regrettably frequent. Information campaigns emphasize that alcohol and drug use is intolerably high, that adolescent suicide rates are alarming, and—most relevant to this article—that rampant polluters are spoiling the environment. Although these claims may be both true and well intentioned, the campaigns' creators have missed something critically important: Within the statement “Many people are doing this undesirable thing” lurks the powerful and undercutting normative message “Many people are doing this.” Only by aligning descriptive norms (what people typically do) with injunctive norms (what people typically approve or disapprove) can one optimize the power of normative appeals. Communicators who fail to recognize the distinction between these two types of norms imperil their persuasive efforts.
