Concept of the day: "Unnovation" - the opposite of Innovation.

So much talk of "empowering" creatives & artists with ever more complex machine learning "augmentation tools". While that's fun, If you really care about empowering creatives, design social systems that *pay creatives real living wages*. Automation won't provide that.
Broke: Tech keynotes that focus on Technology.
Woke: Tech keynotes that focus on Humans.
Bespoke: Tech keynotes that focus on Nature.
Many say "Green New Deal", but what do they really mean? Given the track-record of leading players, one gets the impression it mainly means the complete privatisation / financialization of nature (via "ecosystem services") to further consolidate power in the hands of the very few.
This quote assumes that "something that matters" is clearly defined & general. It isn't. Creating & finding meaning is amongst the most challenging things humans do. #Ideas
"We are developing [insert any disruptive tech with unclear societal benefit/risk] to improve the lives of [insert tiny minority suffering from rare condition]"
With all due respect to minority x, such arguments are shortsighted and even dishonest. And yet, common-place in tech.
Note-Taking apps (Evernote, Onenote, etc.) feel very stagnant since 10y+. For me, this entire category is missing the challenges & opportunities in a big way. I don't need a glorified piece of linear paper, i need a tool to deal with thought vectors in concept space, at scale.
Bicycles in Berlin are a good example of failed technology infrastructure planing. The gov is massively pushing bike sharing & access. Yet, they did not invest in Bike Lanes & other city planing measures such as Car reduction (DE car lobby too strong). The result? Dangerous Chaos.
When designing new technologies, it's tempting to analyse them in isolation - a grave mistake. All tech lives in a complex web of other tech, people, animals, infrastructure, history etc. All tech has positive effects (augmentation) and negative effects (amputation).
Wonder why there are so many "conspiracy theories" & "fake news" online? Beyond loony-people empowered by networks, It is very useful for people/orgs in power, hence tolerated & encouraged. The best way to keep a "secret" is to put it in the open and surround it with noise. Denial of service attack (DDOS) on the human intellect as a Service.
What many don't seem to get about "Augmented Reality" (AR), is that the glasses are really just a detail. The name of the game will be Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) - with and without consent.
