When will we see the first computer Viruses/Malware that use machine learning techniques?
The reason why people are fine with "templates" that are highly constrained in their possible creative output styles (& don't need truly creative generative "AI's"), is the fact that most creative fields adhere to fashion cycles: You want something similar to X, not something new.
The majority of the commercial "AI for creative field X" offerings have essentially figured out how to do clever use of dynamic templates, combined with massive media libraries. The results are often impressive but have very little todo with "AI", beyond a useful marketing term.

Putting a (solar powered) billboard on a street that says "Climate Denial Kills" won't change anything - on the contrary, it will just scare people. If you want action on Climate Change, don't scare & confuse people more - show them loud & clear a realistic alternative path.

Every day, computers are making people easier to use. - David Temkin
"Never has a mouse built a mousetrap. Humans build human traps and atomic bombs" - Franz Alt
"We are a bit like the sorcerer's apprentice. It's relatively easy to create a networked world - but very difficult to appropriately deal with its effects"

The world is full of objects, more or less interesting; I do not wish to add any more.

From the perspective of climate change mitigation, a radical reduction of global economic activity would be great news. With this in mind, is the escalating US/China trade-war (and the resulting looming global economic depression) an excellent development?
The single most important component of any art/media artefact is the person who perceives it. All value, meaning and magic happens inside of you, not "out there" - otherwise it would just be a bunch of noise.
"Looking at my career I noticed that in essence I just keep building the same stool, in a widely disparate number of ways. The stool has three legs: Socialisation, Storytelling and it's the Mechanics that bring those things together. That's all." - Jordan Weisman

The separation of church and state was important for human progress. Would "the separation finance & state" and "the separation science & state" be even more important?
If you want to be an entrepreneur in the Web, AI or Blockchain space, the paths to success are clear (funding, biz models, role models etc.). If you want to become an entrepreneur in the green/eco space & do something about climate change, the paths are very unclear. Why is that?
Prediction: Before 2021, the existence of the US "social score" system will be made public. It combines all available data about citizens (social, crime, health, finance, location, etc.) in one database, which is used to predict the value of citizens. Low score = No Fly etc.

"This painting was created by a neural network based AI" ...and many instinctively say "oh, that's amazing! Magic! Retweet!", no matter how likeable the actual art is.
In reality, this painting was created by "Congo" - a Chimpanzee:

Artificial Intelligence in 2018 is still 99% mythology & 1% technology.
Theory: 98% of what attracts the mainstream to "AI Creativity", is precisely the "no human required, made by an autonomous entity" narrative. In many ways, the AI story appeals to the same kind of people that believe in angels & spirits - just with a scientism flavour.
Want: The opposite of "Non-Disclosure Agreements" (NDA): "Disclosure Agreement" (DA) that contractually binds a person who receives knowledge to spread it.
"The future belongs to the people who can see "now" from a long-term perspective" - Gregory McKeown
The nature of knowledge is fractal: The closer you get, the more you'll find.
