Computational Comedy: After a decade of being an active "computational comedy" practitioner, I'm delighted we have reached the point where machines are gaining a sense of humor and have the ability to automatically motivate billions to smile more.

Drowning in AI Generated Garbage : the silent war we are fighting
All over the web, we are witnessing very spectacular results from statistic algorithms that have been in the work for the last forty years. We gave those algorithms an incredibly catchy name: "Artificial Intelligence". [...] All of this has been made possible because billions of humans were uploading and sharing texts and pictures on the commons we call "the Internet" [...] What we are witnessing is thus not "artificial creativity" but a simple "statistical mean of everything uploaded by humans on the internet which fits certain criteria". It looks nice. It looks fantastic. While they are exciting because they are new, those creations are basically random statistical noise tailored to be liked. [...] But one thing is happening really fast. Those "artificial" creations are also uploaded on the Internet. Those artificial artefacts are now part of the statistical data. [...] The algorithms are already feeding themselves on their own data. And, as any graduate student will tell you, training on your own results is usually a bad idea. You end sooner or later with pure overfitted inbred garbage. Eating your own shit is never healthy in the long run.

Buddhism & Artificial Intelligence
Emergent artificial intelligence poses a problem for many religions, especially those that ascribe a special place for humanity and for human consciousness in the cosmos. Buddhism may be the one system of religious thought that not only accepts but will actively embrace any AIs that we produce as a species.
Later [Buddhist] texts illustrate that animal life is just as capable of becoming enlightened as human life is, and recently many Buddhist thinkers have begun to include plant and microbial life as well. Buddhism may have in fact been the first philosophy to find personhood beyond the human. Would it accept artificial intelligence in the same way? The simple answer is that, from a Buddhist view of the mind and consciousness, all intelligence is artificial.
Buddhism famously denies the existence of a “self”. This is a departure from how many people view themselves. Buddhism instead describes living things as composed of five “heaps” or “piles”: our physical forms, our feelings, our perceptions, our mental formations, and our consciousness
None of the heaps are under our control, and none by themselves can be ascribed as who we “are”. Together they create a living thing, but taken apart they are simply temporary amassing of energy that will eventually dissipitate of their own accord.

Non Von Neumann Architectures
The development of "Non Von Neumann" Architectures and keeping it covert and controlled for decades, was a great success for them.
A possibility the AI/AGI folks are mostly ignoring: "Any sufficiently advanced technology will shutdown & meditate." Chances are an advanced being chooses to relax & operate at the pace of evolution - like trees, fungi, ecosystems, minerals or galaxies - very slowly over billions of years.

Generative Perspective
Proponents of machine learning & neuroscience advocate that the perception of reality is generated by the brain's internal 'world model'. A more interesting view is that its not just perception, but reality itself that is generated, including the perceiver, the brain & spacetime. In this view the challenge is not control and optimization, but cultivation & relaxation.
