A principled way to solve problems: Constantly ask yourself what you are trying to do.
- Ask yourself what’s the problem you’re trying to solve
- Be sure that you understand it deeply, and that you at least have an idea of how would you know that the problem is solved.
- Propose a course of action
- Remind yourself: what I was trying to do?
- Ask the question: does doing this solve my problem?
- Doing this should transform your problem into your imaginary solved problem (that’s why it’s important to have an idea of how does the solved problem looks like)
- Do I need to do this? All actions should be needed for solving the problem. Any action that is not obviously needed, should be discarded

Images generated by OpenAI's DALL·E 2 As the generative AI media train is going into hyper drive, my predictions and thoughts on the space from a few years ago seem more relevant than ever. Personally, I'm happy to have left that scene. If my experiences developing generative systems at startups (CreativeAI) and at giant corporations (Google Research) has thought me anything, it is that despite all the nice words, lofty aspirations and fancy technology, the developers of (creative) ML systems have by and large very little regard and respect for the needs of real people, communities and nature. Nihilistic techno-fetishists and cyber necrophiliacs rambling something about "creativity"...

On creativity
Creativity is fundamentally a question of commitment. Of saying "yes!" to a solution amongst an infinite amount of possibilities - Of recognizing, accepting and giving birth to a new living pattern. Generating the artifact is the easy part, getting easier with each passing year. Telling the story behind an artifact and making it meaningfully part of the collectives imagination is an ongoing practice and magical art form.

Increasing evidence shows that internally generated experience e.g. memory, dreaming and imagery, relies on similar neural mechanisms as externally triggered perception. This overlap complicates perceptual reality monitoring: deciding what is real and what is imagined. In this review, we explored how perceptual reality monitoring might be implemented in the brain.
