Lengthy essay by ecologist and philosopher David Abram titled "Magic and the Machine":
https://emergencemagazine.org/story/magic-and-the-machine/
"PERHAPS IT IS EASIER to understand, now, why we’re so enthralled by our digital technologies, such that once we’re online and synapsed to the screen, it’s remarkably difficult to tear ourselves away. For all these technologies awaken something primordial in us, a biophilic proclivity layered deep in our genome, a penchant for animate interchange with bodies whose shapes are very different from our own. The renewal of that age-old animistic sense of a world all alive, awake, and aware brings an upwelling of wonder, or at least an anticipation of a wondrous possibility waiting just around the corner. And so we remain transfixed by these tools, searching in and through our digital engagements for an encounter they seem to promise yet never really provide: the consummate encounter with otherness, with radical alterity, with styles of sensibility and intelligence that thoroughly exceed the limits of our own sentience. Yet there’s the paradox: for the more we engage these remarkable tools, the less available we are for any actual contact outside the purely human estate. In truth, the more we participate with these astonishing technologies, the more we seal ourselves into an exclusively human cocoon, and the more our animal senses—themselves co-evolved with the winds, the waters, and the many-voiced terrain—are blunted, rendering us ever more blind, ever more deaf, ever more impervious to the more-than-human Earth."

This seems an obvious truth, but we need to say it loud and clear. Urban intelligence is more than information processing.

Gardens as Crypto-Water-Computers: https://pruned.blogspot.com/2012/01/gardens-as-crypto-water-computers.html
Built in 1936, this machine was “the world's first computer for solving differential equations,” which “for half a century has been the only means of calculations of a wide range of problems in mathematical physics.” Absolutely its most amazing aspect is that solving such complex equations meant playing around with a series of interconnected, water-filled glass tubes. You “calculated” with plumbing.
Garden historians usually characterize the technical control of water in stately gardens as part of a system of social control. As an alternative, or at least to offer another layer of meaning, this augmented timeline presents a crypto-historical narrative of gardens as gigantic water computers.

5G is a bullshit vision developed & pushed by giant bullshit corporations & the bullshit governments they fully control - all of which are about to go extinct anyhow. Plus, 5G is bad for the environment (kills insects) and bad for human health. It's Corruption, not Technology.
repeating @bruces "This race is imaginary bullshit... foisted on us by huge telecom companies that know internet access is fundamentally a commodity and want something new to sell at high prices instead of competing to improve service and lower prices on the networks they have."

These images nicely show the effects of Technology: While the car augmented our ability to move, it amputated critical aspects of human behaviour/culture and destroyed urban spaces.

The biggest stock – nearly 1 million cars – was registered in China, one of the world’s most lithium-rich countries. According to a 2017 Chinese government estimate, the salt lakes on the Tibetan Plateau – where the new technology is being used – hold more than 60% of the world’s lithium reserves. A US Geological Survey estimate last year was significantly lower, placing just 7% of the world’s reserves in China.

Diakoptics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diakoptics
In systems analysis, Diakoptics or the "Method of Tearing" involves breaking a (usually physical) problem down into subproblems which can be solved independently before being joined back together to obtain an exact solution to the whole problem. The term was introduced by Gabriel Kron in a series "Diakoptics — The Piecewise Solution of Large-Scale Systems" published in London, England by The Electrical Journal 1957 - 1959.
Gabriel Kron: http://www.quantum-chemistry-history.com/Kron_Dat/KronGabriel1.htm
We know that with the successful development of "Diakoptics" Gabe turned his attention to new and greater challenges, to the comprehension of phenomena of a highly complex nature - multidimensional phenomena. From a philosophical point of view each such phenomenon would be considered complex because each was conceived as constituting a system not only of manifold operations, but of manifold heterogeneous operations. The prototype of this increasingly bold speculation and research was Gabe’s "crystal computer or vest pocket computer," as it was sometimes jokingly referred to, which utilized the simultaneous and heterogeneous activity of a crystal under stimulation of a single electric source. The important steps here seem to have been the perception of an analogy between the optical properties of a crystal under stimulation of a single source of light and the mathematical properties of an electromagnetic field surrounding an electric current, together with the successful use of topology to understand and manipulate them.
