Scientists Say A Mind-Bending Rhythm In The Brain Can Act Like Ketamine
"There was a rhythm that appeared and it was an oscillation that appeared only when the patient was dissociating," says Dr. Karl Deisseroth, a psychiatrist and neuroscientist at Stanford University. Dissociation is a brain state in which a person feels separated from their own thoughts, feelings and body. It is common in people with some mental illnesses, or who have experienced a traumatic event. It can also be induced by certain drugs, including ketamine and PCP (angel dust). Deisseroth's lab made the discovery while studying the brains of mice that had been given ketamine or other drugs that cause dissociation. The team was using technology that allowed them to monitor the activity of cells throughout the brain.
Researchers pinpoint brain circuitry underlying dissociative experiences
Stanford scientists identified brain circuitry that plays a role in the mysterious experience called dissociation, in which people can feel disconnected from their bodies and reality.

#Comment: Yet another new "legal psychedelic therapy" company under interesting leadership: Their board is led by former CEO of Bayer (the pharma giant) and the former COO of the Bill Gates Medical Research Institute. Once these guys (and the money/intel/etc. interests they represent) are done, the majority of psychedelics will be owned by big pharma (patents etc.) and regulated by and for the mega shareholder class - to ensure maximum profits and minimum social disruption. And predictably, the majority of scientists active in this field (imperial & co) are applauding such developments and are willing collaborating. Wonderful bad comedy, illustrating the just how stupid and unscientific any talk of "psychedelics better your character" really is.

Controversial study shows rats prefer jazz to classical music, when on drugs
Rats prefer the sound of silence to Beethoven and Miles Davis – except when they are on drugs. Then, they prefer the jazz. These are the results of a controversial 2011 study by Albany Medical College, in which scientists exposed 36 rats to ‘Für Elise’ by Beethoven and ‘Four’, a brassy jazz standard by Miles Davis. The rats overwhelmingly preferred Beethoven to Davis, but they liked silence best of all. In the second part of the experiment, the rats were given cocaine and played Miles Davis over a period of a few days. After that, the rodents preferred the jazz even after the drug was out of their system. The research, according to scientists, showed rats can be conditioned to like any music associated with their drug experience.

Is Marijuana an ‘Essential’ Like Milk or Bread? Some States Say Yes (NYTimes)
With the coronavirus pandemic spreading rapidly across the country, millions of Americans are being told by state and county officials to take refuge at home, and only venture out to get things they really need. And in many places, marijuana makes the list. Over the past week, more than a dozen states have agreed that while “nonessential” stores had to close, pot shops and medical marijuana dispensaries could remain open — official recognition that for some Americans, cannabis is as necessary as milk and bread.

Interesting read about Donald O. Hebb (1904 - 1985) - famous Canadian psychologist known for his theory of Hebbian learning, the father of neuropsychology and neural networks - and his involvement with CIA interrogation techniques, including sensory deprivation:
2008 BBC reenactment of Donald Hebb's experiments "In classified experiments, Donald Hebb found that he could induce a state akin to drug-induced hallucinations and psychosis in just 48 hours – without drugs, hypnosis, or electric shock. Instead, for two days student volunteers at McGill University simply sat in a comfortable cubicle deprived of sensory stimulation by goggles, gloves, and earmuffs. “It scared the hell out of us,” Hebb said later, “to see how completely dependent the mind is on a close connection with the ordinary sensory environment, and how disorganizing to be cut off from that support.”"

Brian Taylor to Adapt Robert Anton Wilson & Robert Shea’s Illuminatus! as TV Show
The classic, genius, post-modern sci-fi satire, the Illuminatus! trilogy is slated to become a TV series. Given Hivemind's association with Amazon Prime & Netflix, one of these outlets is a likely bet. I have very mixed feelings about this, wait and see. In the meantime: Hail Eris! and..

A Zen Master was once asked, "What is Zen?" “Attention,” he replied. "Is that all?" asked the inquirer. "Attention,” the Zen Master repeated. "Won't you say anything else?" persisted the questioner. “Attention,” said the Master, one more time.
