In physics, potential energy is the energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, its electric charge, or other factors.
In the case of a bow and arrow, when the archer does work on the bow, drawing the string back, some of the chemical energy of the archer's body is transformed into elastic potential energy in the bent limb of the bow. When the string is released, the force between the string and the arrow does work on the arrow. The potential energy in the bow limbs is transformed into the kinetic energy of the arrow as it takes flight.

When a collection of atoms reaches a sufficiently low temperature, they arrange themselves periodically in space to form a crystal. Since the equations that describe the atoms’ motion do not contain any information that prescribes a crystal lattice, this phase transition isn’t trivial to explain even in its simplest form. Experimental and theoretical studies have revealed many types of classical and quantum phase transitions that lead to spatially ordered states. But there are other possible forms of order beyond that of the atoms’ spatial arrangement. In 2012, Frank Wilczek theorized a novel type of phase transition in which matter spontaneously exhibits time-periodic motion, meaning that it arranges itself periodically in time rather than in space. The resulting phase of matter is called a quantum time crystal.
After realizing that time crystals cannot arise under equilibrium conditions, as Wilczek originally proposed [1], many researchers assumed that time crystals are a genuine nonequilibrium quantum effect. However, by employing large-scale numerical simulations, two independent collaborations led by teams at the University of Cambridge, UK, and at the University of California, Berkeley, have found that certain types of time crystals, known as prethermal, can be described using purely classical equations of motion. Their simulations show that many-body systems of classical spins exhibit all the basic features of quantum time crystals, indicating that prethermal time crystals are a classical effect [2–4]. The finding suggests that a description rooted in classical physics can suffice to describe these time crystals and may suggest ways to create them experimentally.

In a novel, broad assessment of bacterial-fungal interactions, researchers using unique bioinformatics found that fungi host a remarkable diversity of bacteria, making bacterial-fungal interactions far more common and diverse than previously known. The authors are Blake Levitt, Henry Lai and Albert Manville. Levitt is a science journalist, based in Connecticut, and the author of Electromagnetic Fields: A Consumer's Guide to the Issues and How To Protect Ourselves, first published in 1995. Lai is a professor emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle. In the 1990s, he and N.P. Singh were the first to show that ELF (60 Hz) EMFs and RF radiation could lead to DNA breaks. Manville is a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and, formerly, a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
“We approached it from the biology/environmental ecosystem level, rather than the typical physics and/or human physiology side,” Levitt told Microwave News. She added that they are planning to publish a book on the topic for the lay reader.
Quantum Entanglement Has Now Been Directly Observed at a Larger Macroscopic Scale
While there's nothing to say that quantum entanglement can't happen with macroscopic objects, before now it was thought that the effects weren't noticeable at larger scales – or perhaps that the macroscopic scale was governed by another set of rules. This new research suggests that's not the case. In fact, the same quantum rules apply here, too, and can actually be seen as well. Researchers vibrated the tiny drum membranes using microwave photons and kept them kept in a synchronized state in terms of their position and velocities. Both the first and the second study have been published in Science.

No Such Agency
Conspiracy theories assume that there is hidden agency: That somebody actually is in charge and knows what they are doing, even though they might be "evil". What is far more terrifying and realistic: There is little to no agency. Nobody is in charge and nobody knows what they are doing. A combination of chaos, incompetence and confusion is running the show and everything else is in essence just a cargo-cult invented by hairless monkeys that only recently learned how to talk.

Abū Mūsā Jābir ibn Ḥayyān is the purported author of an enormous number and variety of works in Arabic, often called the Jabirian corpus. The works that survive today mainly deal with alchemy and chemistry, magic, and Shi'ite religious philosophy. However, the original scope of the corpus covered a wide range of topics ranging from cosmology, astronomy and astrology, over medicine, pharmacology, zoology and botany, to metaphysics, logic, and grammar.

Nuclear Electromagnetic Pulse (NEMP)
