While current generative "text to image" machine learning models give amazing abilities to trained artists and regular people alike, the "text is the one interface to rule them all" notion is deeply flawed.

That which is technically feasible and cheap to do, will be done...
...thus it is logical to assume that a significant portion of all media delivered via screens today (video, image, audio, text) is fully generated by machines, using weaponized secretive "deep fakes" systems with capabilities that are 10+ years beyond the current public imagination. Further, given how ubiquitous and cheap total surveillance has become, it is logical to assume such systems are on a trajectory to becoming "closed loop" and semi-autonomous, to be able to generate and deliver custom versions of "reality" for targeted audiences at scale, that continuously evolve based on individuals measured reactions to "behavioral micro-nudging" delivered through generated media. "The Show Must Go On" or "Unplug & Visit Nature", which is it for you?

Google Says AI Generated Content Is Against Guidelines (alt)
#Comment: Widespread use of AI generated content is a nightmare for search engines like Google. Large scale generative botnets could essentially poisons their entire index to the point of breaking. It is just a question of time until the Bot VS Bot adversarial game becomes unmanageable. And despite their silly rules, it is essentially unbannable. A great times for alternative service, which less heavily rely on pure algorithmic approaches.

Images generated by OpenAI's DALL·E 2 As the generative AI media train is going into hyper drive, my predictions and thoughts on the space from a few years ago seem more relevant than ever. Personally, I'm happy to have left that scene. If my experiences developing generative systems at startups (CreativeAI) and at giant corporations (Google Research) has thought me anything, it is that despite all the nice words, lofty aspirations and fancy technology, the developers of (creative) ML systems have by and large very little regard and respect for the needs of real people, communities and nature. Nihilistic techno-fetishists and cyber necrophiliacs rambling something about "creativity"...

On creativity
Creativity is fundamentally a question of commitment. Of saying "yes!" to a solution amongst an infinite amount of possibilities - Of recognizing, accepting and giving birth to a new living pattern. Generating the artifact is the easy part, getting easier with each passing year. Telling the story behind an artifact and making it meaningfully part of the collectives imagination is an ongoing practice and magical art form.

Increasing evidence shows that internally generated experience e.g. memory, dreaming and imagery, relies on similar neural mechanisms as externally triggered perception. This overlap complicates perceptual reality monitoring: deciding what is real and what is imagined. In this review, we explored how perceptual reality monitoring might be implemented in the brain.
