Fighting AI and remix culture is a losing battle - by @AdamSinger
"Your style belongs to you, and even if people were asking AI to create something ‘in the style of <blank>’ it just means you already won."

Many are feverishly working towards fully AI Generated audiovisual media. The more exciting opportunity that most are missing, is creating AI audiences that consume the endless synthetic content - so humans can go to the forest with friends and enjoy the peace.

Reasoning about AI generated media (audio, images, etc) focusing on traditional characteristics, such as the artistic quality of artefacts, is missing the point. Think of it through the lense of information warfare and infosec, and things start to make more sense.

As Generative AI is making content creation at scale accessible to all, traditional moderation & censorship strategies stand to be overwhelmed. The tidal wave of generated content will make it very challenging for any authority to observe, orient, decide & act in effective ways.

Soft Wireheading Music
The perception of music — its appeal to an individual in specific contexts and the emotions it evokes — has traditionally been highly subjective. Though recommender systems have provided some insights in recent years, understanding this domain largely remained elusive. However, with the rise of contemporary machine learning and BCI, modeling audience's perception and responses to media is rapidly increasing in precision. By integrating these affective models with generative music models in a dynamic feedback loop, we get a glimpse of a groundbreaking new form of media, that enable users to deliberately and precisely alter their mental states. Such "soft wireheading" techniques have expansive applications, ranging from entertainment and healthcare to education and defense.
But more importantly:
In an age where our senses are perpetually bombarded by external stimuli, it's worth remembering this insight from meditation: It's entirely possible to cultivate an inner state of profound tranquility and bliss at any moment, independent of any 'external' catalyst.

Google recently pinned a post "Our principles for partnering with the music industry on AI technology" Despite the vague jargon being thrown around like "responsible AI use", it is clear that the emerging model they are proposing is tailored to, and dominated by, corporate giants like Google and UMG. Their commitment to supporting artists seems to be a mere platitude, with main focus being on creating a closed source system, optimized for their profit and control. This potential 'generative land-grab' is a chilling prospect in an already highly centralized media landscape.

We are heading into a world of "self-optimizing media experiences", where in a data-driven feedback loop, generative systems continuously adjust parameters to meet the demands of fine grained customer segments. Coming sooner than many think, with K-Pop doing this already at scale today.

"Generative Doubt" is a widespread novel psychological condition in the early 21st century. Assuming by default everything on screens is AI generated and daily meditation are effective strategies to deal with it.

Reality Tunnel Management Industry
Prediction: As Generative AI real-time sensory filters (e.g. "confirm all i see & hear to my taste profile, "make all look young & beautiful") proliferate and become the killer app of incoming augmented reality tech, "Reality Tunnel Management" will become a giant industry.

Visited my local comic shop and was reminded what art/media culture is all about: Rich experiences that touch all senses, that brings people together. All generated fancy media on screens will quickly become meaningless, if it's not delivered in the right human context.

An avalanche of Generative Spam everywhere. Toxic slug produced at zero marginal cost will suffocate a society already tethering on insanity.
"BuzzFeed will use ChatGPT to create content instead of writers The stock is up 92% today"

Generative Spam Solutions
The pathway out of the generative spam avalanche conundrum requires building media tools that playfully empower users/consumers with agency, hyper-personalization of experiences, transparency and fair business models. Otherwise people will fatigue fast & all becomes meaningless.

Can GPT-3 explain my past and tell my future? "I loaded 10 years of journal entries into it and started asking questions" - Experiment by Dan Shipper
When have I been the happiest?
What do I need to learn in order to improve my life?
What is obvious to everyone around me but doesn't appear obvious to me?
What is my deepest unmet need?
What are my deepest hopes and dreams?
Why is my Myers-Briggs personality type?
If I were to write a New York Times bestselling book about the intersection of my interests and AI, what would it be about?

Prediction: At the end of 2023 we'll see major corporations launch generative media products/properties, marking the end of the "Artisanal AI Art" phase & beginning of the "Industrial generative AI media" phase. Many traditional & AI artists will be upset.

Apparently originally can't be generated yet..
Spent a few hours checking out all the new generative AI startups. Is it just me or are they mostly just re-hashes of 30+ year old ideas, with some "AI fairy dust" on top? Mostly presented in a super tame and boring style. Apparently originality can't be generated yet..

"'I Don't Believe You:' Artist Banned from r/Art Because Mods Thought They Used AI"
#Comment: Pandora's Box is open & likely won't close again. Soon enough people will doubt every piece of content, as it could be synthetic.
