Greed is a bottomless pit

2.5 billion T. rex inhabited the planet, researchers say
The number is staggering: 2.5 billion Tyrannosaurus rex lived and died during the roughly 2.4 million years the species survived on the planet, according to a new study set to be published in the journal Science on Friday. The study may help contextualize the fossil record and the rarity of finding certain fossilized prehistoric organisms, according to lead researcher Charles Marshall, director of the University of California Museum of Paleontology.
Researchers generate human-monkey chimeric embryos
Investigators in China and the United States have injected human stem cells into primate embryos and were able to grow chimeric embryos for a significant period of time--up to 20 days. The research, despite its ethical concerns, has the potential to provide new insights into developmental biology and evolution. It also has implications for developing new models of human biology and disease.

The draft EU AI Regulation was leaked today - was asked to comment on this for a CNBC piece
#Comment: In the global race for A.I talent and capabilities, the EU is today clearly far behind China and the US. I find it rather difficult to understand how the introduction of highly complex, highbrow AI regulations in a niche market, will have any real impact on the development of "AI" globally. Further, i wonder how the EU's plans can be practically enforced, given that they constantly and catastrophically fail to regulate far "simpler" things, such as finance or tech-giants. Finally, i wonder why they choose to regulate an abstract concept such as "AI" instead of an applied technology like "machine learning" or it's specific applications? As the famous mathematician Paul Dirac once said "There are two main problems in A.I: What is A and what is I". Or as Edsger Dijkstra, one of Europe's greatest computer scientists, once said: "Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes".

“Selfish Pigs” is a book by Andy Riley that shows annoying things some people do.
"The greatest challenge of science, its art, lies in asking an important question and framing it in a way that allows it to be broken into manageable pieces, into experiments that can be conducted that ultimately lead to answers. To do this requires a certain kind of genius, one that probes vertically and sees horizontally." - John M.Barry - The Great Influenza (p. 60)
Psychedelic Learning - by Julian Vayne
"Magic is a set of techniques and approaches which can be used to extend the limits of Achievable Reality. Our sense of Achievable Reality is the limitations which we believe bind us into a narrow range of actions and successes—what we believe to be possible for us at any one given time. In this context, the purpose of magic is to simultaneously explore the boundaries and attempt to push them back—to widen the “sphere” of possible action." - Phil Hine in Condensed Chaos
